The Predictability of a Target Signal Affects Manual Feedforward Control

چکیده
In the manual control of a dynamic system, the human controller (HC) is often required to follow a visible and predictable reference path. Using the predictable aspect of a reference signal, through applying feedforward control, the HC can significantly improve performance as compared to a purely feedback control strategy. A proper definition of a signal’s predictability, however, is never given in literature. This paper investigates the predictability of a sum-of-sinusoids target signal, as a function of the number of sinusoid components and the fact whether the sinusoid frequencies are harmonic, or not. A human-in-the-loop experiment was done, with target signals varying for these two signal characteristics. A combined feedbackfeedforward HC model was identified and parameters were estimated. It was found that for all experimental conditions, subjects used a feedforward strategy. Results further showed that subjects were able to perform better for harmonic signals as compared to non-harmonic signals, for signals with roughly the same frequency content. Copyright c ©2016 IFAC

Several approaches have been introduced in literature for active noise control (ANC)systems. Since Filtered-x-Least Mean Square (FxLMS) algorithm appears to be the best choice as acontroller filter. Researchers tend to improve performance of ANC systems by enhancing andmodifying this algorithm. This paper proposes a new version of FxLMS algorithm. In many ANCapplications an online secondary pat...

متن کاملTime Delay and Data Dropout Compensation in Networked Control Systems Using Extended Kalman Filter
In networked control systems, time delay and data dropout can degrade the performance of the control system and even destabilize the system. In the present paper, the Extended Kalman filter is employed to compensate the effects of time delay and data dropout in feedforward and feedback paths of networked control systems. In the proposed method, the extended Kalman filter is used as an observer ...
متن کاملMRS Shimming: An Important Point Which Should not be Ignored
Introduction: Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a well-known device for analyzing the biological fluids metabolically. Obtaining accurate and reliable information via MRS needs a homogeneous magnetic field in order to provide well-defined peaks and uniform water suppression. There are lots of reasons which can disturb the magnetic field homogeneity which can be corrected by a proc...
متن کاملPriming of visual cortex by temporal attention? The effects of temporal predictability on stimulus(-specific) processing in early visual cortical areas
In recent studies it has been shown that temporal predictability of expected events alters processing in perception and action. Yet, the neural mechanism(s) by which temporal predictability biases this processing is to date little understood. Therefore, in the present fMRI study we investigated how temporal predictability affects neural processing in visual cortical areas. For this, thirty-four...
